DIVORCE PERSPECTIVES meets at:
North Deering Congregational Church
1364 Washington Ave.
Portland, Maine
207-797-2487
Every Wednesday, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
DIVORCE PERSPECTIVES is a secular support
group for those people facing the separation or divorce process. DP's purpose is
to help each other cope with the many adjustments of this difficult transition.
THE GROUP SETTING provides mutual support
that helps each person realize he/she is not alone, and that divorce, while assuredly
a time of pain and loss, can also be a time of emergence, discovery and new beginnings.
SPEAKERS: We welcome local area professionals
to speak on a variety of subjects relating to divorce, such as divorce law, co-parenting,
coping and self-help issues. Group discussion follows the speaker. Speakers are
scheduled as often as possible.
LITERATURE on a variety of topics is available
for free at the meetings.
SMALL GROUPS are offered each week and consist
of informal discussion led by group members. These facilitators are not professionals,
and the groups are not therapy. Facilitators are experienced group members who have
volunteered to assume some of the responsibilities of keeping the group going. Discussion
begins with introductions, but you may say as little or as much as you wish. The
purpose of these groups is to offer a safe and supportive place where members can
express feelings, ask for information, share experiences and validate their own
perception. The emphasis is on sharing of perspectives to help individuals deal
with their feelings during transition time.
CONFIDENTIALITY is essential and is the
cornerstone to building mutual trust. We insist on strict confidentiality regarding
anything discussed in the groups as well as who may be attending.
PEOPLE are welcome to announce different
activities that they want to sponsor, such a hikes, house parties and get-togethers,
at the general meeting.
DP is an adult-only support group. We are
unable to offer childcare.
